In the week that followed the media and commercial hysteria on March 8, there were two news stories that revealed the grim reality.  Today, in India, we have become inured to skewed gender ratios, both at the national and state levels.  So, female infanticide does not make headline news.  In both stories, infant girls, both just a couple of days old, were found dead in a well.  To hold or even to merely look at a newborn baby is to feel protective.  Hence, what must it take to want to kill someone so utterly helpless, powerless, and defenseless?
