Last month I read Ricardo Semler’s The Seven Day Weekend in which he describes the hiring process at Semco. Apparently applicants go through several interviews with the people they are going to work with before being hired. This way there are no nasty surprises for either side when the joining date arrives. And attrition is just one percent. As I read this, I wondered if this could have been implemented in the IT and ITes industries where, until the present economic slowdown, high attrition rates proved stressful for all concerned. While HR facilitated the process, what if project teams had been responsible for recruitment?
