I have been reading Ramachandra Guha’s India after Gandhi.  Guha, is one of my favourite writers.  One of my favourite passages in the book is about India and America, and their rather prickly relationship.  Guha writes, “It did not help these were both preachy peoples, whose foreign policy and diplomacy were invarioubly accompanied by an unctuous self-righteousness.”

This book is among the 25 listed in “What Obama Should Read” — a list put together by the Washington Monthly.
